Alternatives to disposable feminine products?

by Alison Jones
Did you know there are reusable alternatives to disposable feminine products? They are ecofriendly and in the long run will save you money. Instead of using disposable menstrual items such as pads and tampons, there are reusable pads, sponges, and cups! There are many different brands on the market, and you can even find patterns online to make your own cloth pads. Pads work just like disposable ones except that you wash the pad instead of throwing it away. If you’re wondering how this works when you are away from home, there are carriers that can help with that. There are also sponges that can replace tampons, and there are carriers that make the sponges easy to travel with as well. Another ecothrifty menstrual product is the cup. They are made of either natural rubber or medical grade silicone, and you only need one.

  1. I have a DivaCup and love the thing…well about as much as you can love anything when it comes to getting your period. I buy them for my friends at baby showers now instead of another baby outfit, and I always end up raving about it in public.

  2. I have used cloth pads and a cup (Lady Cup). Cloth pads are good but the cup is awsome! I will never ever use anything else if I don't have to.

  3. After reading EcoThrifty, I ordered them through Luna Pads. I've only used them for one period, but I really like them. Just the thought of having absolutely no garbage was great. I rave about them too.

  4. I’ve been using cloth pads for over a year now and will never go back to disposables! Cloth pads have changed my life! So much more comfortable and better for the environment. Plus they make it fun with all the different colors and prints! My favorite brands are Tree Hugger and Homestead Emporium.
